How can I purchase SAGE Reference Online?

You can order with SAGE directly or order through your favorite wholesaler. Encyclopedias, handbooks and full collections can each be purchased on their own.

How much will it cost?

SAGE Reference Online Encyclopedia and Handbook Collections cost at least 15 percent less than purchasing online titles individually.

How do I sign up for a free trial?

Contact the SAGE Reference team through the contact page. A trial opens all content on the SAGE Reference Online platform.

What content will I be able to access through the trial?

The trial allows access to all content on the SAGE Reference Online platform.

Does SAGE Reference have a widget I can place on my institution's website, research guides, or other site?

Yes. You can download the SAGE Reference search widget and place the code on your website. The widget lets researchers run a quick search against all content your institution can access, and a new window opens with the results of their query. Please direct any questions or reports of technical problems to the contact for your region.

Is SAGE Reference Online COUNTER compliant?

Yes. SAGE Reference Online offers COUNTER compliant usage statistics.

Does SAGE supply MARC records?

Yes. You may download MARC 21 compliant records for all SAGE reference titles for your library's OPAC system. If you have any questions about these records, please contact the office for your region.

Which SAGE Reference products are available through Gale Virtual Reference Library?

All individual encyclopedia titles are available through Gale Virtual Reference Library. However, no SAGE Reference Collections can be purchased through Gale. All Collections must be purchased through SAGE directly or through your favorite wholesaler.

If I have access on Gale Virtual Reference Library, will I be able to get the SAGE Reference Online version for free?

The Gale platform and the SAGE Reference Online platform are separate products, so they must be purchased independently of each other.

Are there discounts if I have the print and want to buy the online version?

No discounts are offered.

Will the online version be available at the same time as the print?

The electronic version publishes within 2 weeks of the print version. There are a few exceptions.

Are there hosting fees?

Yes, and they apply as follows.

Annual Hosting Fee: no fee shall be charged during the initial five year period, commencing on the date of the agreement. Thereafter, the Annual Hosting Fee shall be twenty five dollars ($25.00) per title per year, provided however, that in no event shall the Annual Hosting Fee exceed seven hundred dollars ($700.00).

For current customers who originally purchased either single or package encyclopedias, an amendment will be added to their existing contract with no new hosting fees applied separately for handbooks. For new customers, the same agreement is used, which now includes both handbooks and encyclopedias. The current hosting fee model applies ($25 per title, $700 cap after 5 years) to any purchase, whether it involves encyclopedias, handbooks, or both.

How are users authenticated?

SAGE Reference Online supports IP address authentication and Athens.

Do I have to renew my subscription every year?

No. There is no subscription pricing. Once you buy it, you own it. It is a one time purchase.
